Squares and Triangles project

Fabric Requirements
Background - 3/4 yard
Outer Border - 1 yard
Squares border and star points - 5/8 yard
Triangles border and star centers - 5/8 yard

Tools and Notions
Colored Pencils (about 6)
Sewing machine in good working order
Rotary cuter, mat and ruler
4 1/2" square of template plastic, or Magic Triangle ruler (available in class)
Neutral colored thread
Sewing basket supplies
2-3 small zip lock bags to take parts home
 

Pre-class cutting
From the Background fabric, cut:

  • 2 strips, 4 1/2" x 40". Crosscut 20 rectangles 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" and 4 squares, 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".
  • 1 strip, 5 1/2" x 40". Crosscut 8 rectangles, 4 1/2" x 5 1/2".
  • 2 strips, 2 1/2" x 40". Crosscut 20 squares, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2".

From the Outer Border fabric, cut:

  • 2 strips, 4 1/2" x 40". Crosscut 10 rectangles, 4 1/2" x 5 1/2".
  • 2 strips, 8" x 40". Crosscut 6 squares, 8" x 8".

From the Squares and Star Points fabric, cut:

  • 6 strips, 2 1/2" x 40". From 3 of the strips, crosscut 40 squares, 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". Leave the other 3 strips whole

From the Triangles and Star Centers fabric, cut:

  • 3 strips, 3 1/2" x 40".  
  • 1 strip, 4 1/2" x 40". Crosscut 5 squares, 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".
