The Gizmo

Order here!

I've invented a tool to make it easy to construct half-square triangles from the same-size strips that you are using for the rest of your quilt. This is especially great for those of you who like to use Jelly Rolls, and many of the quilts in Savvy Sets for Scrappy Blocks and Crazy for Scraps use this technique.

Cut rectangles of dark and light fabric and place them right sides together. Start with strips that are 1/2" bigger than the finished size of the desired half-square triangles. Cut rectangles that are 1” longer than they are wide. Line up the gizmo as shown in the illustration. Draw lines on both sides -- the lines should go from the top left and bottom right corners, and they should be at a 45 º angle. Sew on both lines, then cut them apart between them. You have 2 half-square triangles from the same size strips that you used for the rest of the quilt!
