I've written nine books, two are still in print.  Both Designing with Built-In Borders and Savvy Sets for Scrappy Blocks are published by Sally Schneider Quilts.

Savvy Sets for Scrappy Blocks, 72 pages, full color

$30.00

Some people call me the queen of scraps (to my face!!), and, I suppose, after writing as many books of scrap quilts as I have, I don't mind the nickname. Savvy Sets for Scrappy Blocks is my newest effort to uphold my reputation. Included are 12 quilts, all made with scrappy blocks, but I've added something new this time. For a long time, I've been playing with the idea of piecing the ends of sashing strips to make more designs without much more work. It's amazing what you can do with a few triangles on the ends of the strips. For example, in the quilt shown on the cover, there's only one star block, the layered star (called Dylan's Stars). The friendship stars and small Ohio stars are actually part of the sashing. I've done different kinds of sashing to show you 6 options, all of them very simple to construct. I've also added alternating blocks to some of the quilts, making more complex designs from simple blocks.

At the back of the book is information for making all the sashing strips and alternating blocks interchangeable with the scrappy focus blocks. All the quilts are made with six simple techniques -- strip piecing, half- and quarter-square triangles, folded corners, Mary's Triangles, and freezer paper foundation piecing (my newest passion).

All the directions are presented in 3 sizes, and all are made from strips cut from collected fat quarters.

Designing With Built-In Borders, 44 pages

$20.00

Wouldn't you love to make pieced borders that aren't long strips that often don't fit, and that almost always require fussy sewing and lots of adjusting. I have redesigned 10 traditional pieced borders so that they can be done as blocks, rather than strips. This makes them so easy to put together. Designing With Built-In Borders is a workbook  in which I have illustrated 10 built-in borders drafted on various-sized blocks. The directions include detailed illustrations of the blocks required to make each border, along with rotary cutting dimensions for cutting the pieces for each block in multiple sizes from 6" to 15". You still have to do some work -- like providing the focus blocks in the center of the quilt, and some fabric calculations, but it's all very well explained and easy to accomplish.

Built-In Border Patterns

$9.00 each

In October 2004, I released the first 6 Built-In Border Patterns. Each pattern contains directions for a quilt with a built-in border in at least three sizes, crib, twin, and queen, and three of them (Criss Cross, Pinwheels, and Mary's Triangles) also have a fourth size that is appropriate for a table runner or wall hanging.

2005 Patterns

Of special interest in the 2005 patterns are two patterns for setting your own blocks together with a built-in border. If you do Block-of-the-Month quilts, Saturday sampler, $5.00 quilt or other sampler-type quilts, these are for you. Each of the patterns is for the sashing strips, setting squares and the borders -- you provide the 10" or 12" finished blocks.

All patterns are written for lap, twin, and queen-size quilts; Seeing Stars also has a table runner.
